About me

A bit more about my background and interests.

Background

I'm a physics major on the pre-med track at Auburn University. I chose physics because I like understanding how things work at a fundamental level, and I plan to pursue medicine.

School
Auburn University, Physics (pre-med)
Involved in
Alpha Epsilon Delta, Tigers Against Cancer, HOSA, Pre-Med Association

Medicine

I completed EMT training the summer before college and spent time on a 911 ambulance. It gave me a clear picture of what patient care looks like outside the hospital.

Since then I've shadowed in trauma surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, critical care and cardiology. I haven't settled on a specialty and want to see as much of medicine as I can before I do.

Certification
EMT training complete. National registry exam is next.
Clinical
EMS ride time; shadowing in trauma, CT surgery, critical care and cardiology

Technology

I built and run a small two-server setup: one rented server in the cloud and one in my apartment, connected by a private encrypted network so nothing at home is exposed to the internet. It hosts my password manager, monitoring, and a game server for friends.

Building it taught me networking, Linux administration and security in practice. The full write-up, including how it's secured, is on the homelab documentation page, and the configuration is on GitHub.

Where they meet

Cardiac electrophysiology is one place where my interests in medicine and technology overlap. The field depends heavily on engineering: catheters that record the heart's electrical signals, mapping systems that turn those signals into a 3D model of the heart, and implanted pacemakers and defibrillators that report back to the clinic remotely. Running my own systems has given me an appreciation for the reliability and security that technology like this requires, and it's one of the areas of medicine I'm most interested in learning more about.
